Public Works practitioners play a crucial role in the planning and delivery of public works and engineering services to the community. The Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia (IPWEA) is a national professional organisation providing member services and advocacy for those involved in this important industry. Their is a division of IPWEA in each State.

Members of the IPWEA represent practitioners in state and local government as well as private industry. IPWEA promotes professionalism, education, knowledge sharing and technical knowledge and holds strategic alliances with other relevant organisations.

To maintain the high level of competency the community demands, the IPWEA provides regular skills development programs for practitioners, as well as networking with colleagues at Branch, State and National Conferences, training programs and seminars; involvement in committees concerning particular topics which respond to technical issues. The IPWEAlobbies State and Federal governments for policy change and for grants to undertake projects that benefit the public works industry.

IPWEA has Foundations in all States which provide funds for research,scholarships and endowments.
